Steven Hayes & Joshua Komisarjevsky - Cheshire Home Invasion

On August 6th, 2007 a tragedy happened in Cheshire, Connecticut. A family destroyed by two careless men. A man named Dr. William A. Petit, 50, lost his family including his wife Jennifer Hawke-Petit, 48, his oldest daughter Hayley, 17, and Michaela, 11. The three of them were tied to their beds raped murdered and set on fire to burn. Jennifer didn't suffer as much as the two young girls, Jennifer was strangled and the two daughters has to lay tied in their bed and wait to die from the smoke inhalation. The father was beaten by a baseball bat and was tied up but he managed to escape the fire.

Steven Hayes, 44, right, and Joshua Komisarjevsky, 26, left, are the people on trial for this case. These two men have been in jail already and they both have a lot of charges on their heads for just this one situation. The crime they committed was so bad that they are both looking at the death penalty if convicted. They have counts such as the murder of two or more persons, kidnapping, burglary, arson, sexual assault and more. Steven Hayes is currently located in MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield. Hayes tried to commit suicide from a drug overdose. It was said that this is not the first time he tried to overdose. Prison guards found him unconscious and he was taken to the UCONN Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut. It was said that he faked taking his medicine for a few days and just took them all at once. He put himself in a coma. It seems as though he was trying to avoid the jury selection which in fact was postponed until the following but the trial won't start until sometime in September.

This was a very tragic incident that happened. The thing that made it worse is that it was planned. They had all the tools and worst they had the mentality. They actually had the courage to do something so terrible. Many people say they deserve the death penalty. Many people also said that if Steven Hayes wanted to overdose then why didn't they just let him die. I think that's kind of cruel and maybe they just want him to suffer in a jail cell until they do kill him but either way people just want him to die. Komisarjevsky and Hayes brought pain to many people so they deserve to get whatever they are convicted for.
